Part of MARS' mandate includes public education, in the hope that we can help prevent many of the problems that bring wildlife to us every year. Sandy Fairfield is our education coordinator and she always does a great job of engaging students, but sometimes a special teacher comes along who takes the lesson even further. Here's a wonderful example of how children can find a way to share the message. This video was made recently by Ms. C. Adair's grade 1 & 2 class at Willow Point Elementary school. They are great supporters and fund raisers - in 2011 they raised $450.00 for MARS by saving and drying the seeds from ripe tomatoes, planting them in small pots and raising them in Ms. Adair's greenhouse until they were ready to transplant and bring back into the classroom. The students took care of them until they were sold in May and this year they hope to add strawberries and lettuce to the project. This class is a great role model to other kids!
